RAUTAHAT, MARCH 25

Rautahat police have uncovered an inter-district gang involved in defrauding the public through the sale of fake gold, arresting four suspects with evidence during a raid at Jagat Resort in Chandranigahpur.

According to the District Police Office, police received information that a gold buying and selling operation was ongoing at room number 102 of the hotel in Chandrapur Municipality–5. Acting on the tip-off, a police team under DSP Rupa Labung raided the location at 4:55 pm on Tuesday and apprehended four individuals.

During a body search, police recovered fake gold resembling real yellow metal from the possession of 30-year-old Arbind Chaudhary of Chandrapur Municipality–10. Other suspects include 38-year-old Rupkesh Rai Yadav from Baudhimai Municipality–6, 37-year-old Ashok Tamang from Tarkeshwar Municipality–3, Nuwakot (currently in Darjeeling, West Bengal, India), and 30-year-old Sanjok Basnet from Jaygaon, Siliguri, West Bengal, India.

Seven pieces of the fake gold, including four intact pieces and three broken ones, were seized. The recovered items were marked "CREDIT SUISSE 10g FINE GOLD 999.9" to mimic real gold, intended to mislead the public. Police also seized six mobile phones, a magnifying binocular labeled "ANTICK MAGNIFYING BINOCULAR," "EAST INDIA COMPANY" from the suspects.

DSP Bishnu Pradeep Basyal said preliminary investigations suggest the gang may have an international network connecting Rautahat and neighboring Indian districts. The suspects are in custody at Chandranigahpur Police Station, and police are continuing a detailed investigation. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant against such fraudulent activities.
