KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 11

Police have arrested ten individuals on charges of vandalizing and setting fire to the Kailali District Court and the District Prison Office in Dhangadhi during the Gen-Z protests on September 9.

Those arrested include Ashish Bhandari, 24, of Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City-3; Bharat Bam, originally from Baitadi district and currently residing in Dhangadhi-3; Aman KC of the same locality; Alex Chand, 27, of ward-7; and Laxman Bahadur Bista, 21, along with Manoj Bista of ward-1.

Others apprehended on the same charges are Gopal Bhatt, 28, of Dhangadhi-2; Suraj Katuwal, also known as James, of ward-3; Basanta Raj Joshi, 40, of ward-9; and Ankit Saxena, 19.

According to Police Inspector Kailash Singh Bista of the District Police Office, the suspects were taken into custody on different dates. A case of criminal nuisance has been filed against them. Acting upon a complaint demanding an investigation into the acts of vandalism and arson and calling for the perpetrators to be held accountable, police teams arrested the individuals from various locations.

During the protests, the District Court building was set ablaze and vandalized, resulting in the destruction of documents and furniture and leaving the structure gutted. A similar incident occurred at the Kailali District Prison, where some inmates reportedly escaped before the building was set on fire.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, police discovered an unattended pipe gun hidden inside a tree hollow near Lamki Tal of the Saraswati Community Forest in Bhajani Municipality-9, Kailali district.
