Police disperse protesters to open Araniko Highway following fatal accident in Banepa
BANEPA: Police today fired six cells of tear gas to clear the blocked Araniko Highway at Kavre today, following the protest by locals after a scooter rider was killed in a road accident.
20-year-old scooter rider Bimala Thagunna of Shuklaphanta Nagarpalika-8 in Kanchanpur district, died after a tipper hit her.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Mahendra Marasini at the District Police Office, the incident occurred when the tipper (Ba 4 Kha 4649) en route from Kathmandu to Banepa rammed the scooter (Ba 55 Pa 3725) from behind, critically injuring Thagunna.
Thagunna breathed her last in course of treatment at Scheer Memorial Hospital, Banepa, said police.
The situation is under control now and the highway has also opened, said police.
