Police fire in air to control mob outside mosque in Mahottari

KATHMANDU: Police resorted to firing in the air to disperse a mob gathered outside a mosque in Loharpatti Municipality-3 of Mahottari district today. Muslim community across the country is observing Bakr-Eid today.

According to Sub Inspector of Police (SI) Gaurishankar Saha at Loharpatti-based Area Police Office, a clash erupted among three groups as they vigorously disputed over the appointment of 'Mawalwi' for administering Namaaz prayers at the mosque in Mahadaiyatapanpur area today. 'Mawalwi' is a religious title given to an Islamic scholar.

SI Saha said local Mawalvi Mohammad Satriya Aalam was administering Namaaz prayers in the mosque while another group wanted another local Mawalvi to replace the former one. On the contrary, the third group had invited Mawalwi from India to perform the rituals. The clash occurred among three groups as the Mawalwi from India arrived at the mosque.

Islam followers visit the mosques, offer prayers to Allah, perform Namaj prayers and exchange greetings with each other on this day.

Reading Namaaz, observing Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca Medina) and Roja (fasting), and offering donations and sacrifices are considered the five major good deeds that are supposed to be followed by Muslims the world over.
