Police imposter held in Birgunj
BIRGUNJ: The Parsa District Police Office on Sunday has made pubic a police imposter held on charge of swindling commuters in pretext of security check at various locations in the Metropolis.
Police identified the conman as 24-year-old Vinod Mandal of Bahudaramai Rural Municipality-3 in Parsa district.
Mandal in civvies used to identify himself as police officer at the Parsa District Police Office's crime investigation department and frisked body of the commuters in pretext of security check at various locations in the Metropolis, according to police.
DSP Chakra Raj Joshi said fraudster Mandal was arrested red-handed while demanding Rs 1,00,000 from the victims at Rajatjyanti Chok in Birgunj yesterday.
Mandal had intercepted the two-wheeler (Na 37 Pa 4910) frisked them and took away documents from the biker.
He then allegedly demanded Rs 1 lakh from the victims and threatened to charge them with drug trafficking case if they fail to pay him.
However, the motorcyclists resorted to the police and, subsequently, Mandal was arrested yesterday, informed DSP Joshi.
As per the police's preliminary investigation, Mandal was found to be involved in swindling people in the past.
Meanwhile, police are preparing to file a fraud case against the suspect. He is being kept at the Parsa District Police Office for further investigation.
