Police save youth from suicide with help of Facebook

KATHMANDU: In a strange incident of its sort, police have saved life of a youth who apparently was about to commit suicide after posting a suicide note on his Facebook timeline.

Right after the post, the Facebook's Ireland-based data centre investigated into profile of the man and informed Nepal Police about the incident at around 1 am today.

Following the information, Nepal Police acted and saved the life of the youth by providing necessary counselling to him.

A team led by Inspector Pashupati Kumar Raya from the Metropolitan Police Crime Division in Kathmandu was assigned to investigate into the case.

The Division also sought help from police in Jhapa district to locate the boy and counsel him.

According to the investigation, the boy who attempted to commit suicide is from Jhapa and is studying in Bachelor’s level.

The boy after returning to a normal condition thanked police for saving his life and pledged not to repeat such reckless act again.
