Polio immunisation campaign in 67 districts

The eighth intensive national vaccination day was held in 67 districts across the Kingdom today.

The first stage was held on August 16 and the second phase on September 20 last year in the Himali districts of Manang, Mustang, Jumla, Humla, Mugu, Dolpa, Gorakha and Sankhuwasabha.

Administering of polio drops to children below the age of five years at about 40,000 booths set up at each ward of 67 districts of the Kingdom began today. The achievement of the target set in the eighth Polio Immunisation Day on January 3 was 99.23 per cent. The target set for eighth intensive National Polio Immunisation Day is to administer polio drops to the entire children from birth to the age of 5.

Health workers and volunteers will visit each and every house of the wards tomorrow to see to it that no child is omitted of being administered the polio drops and the district-level polio immunisation coordination committee will certify it. The Department of Health Services has stated polio drops have been administered to about 80 per cent of the targeted children by 4 pm today in almost all the districts.

Banners stating that the concerned places have been specified as the polio immunisation centres have been hung at the close to the border areas, bus terminus, schools, VDC buildings, tea stalls, pharmacies, even roadsides and polio drops administered there.

Information have been received that there has been continuous flow of guardians with their children to the polio booths.
