Political meddling rampant in police: IGP

Bara, September 3

Inspector General of Nepal Police Sarbendra Khanal today disclosed that his force had to face unnecessary hurdles due to political interference.

Inaugurating the newly constructed building of District Police Office, barracks and detention centre in Kalaiya of Bara today, IGP Khanal urged all and sundry to end political intervention in the security force. “Unless political interference is completely stopped in the security force, people can’t get justice. Nepal Police has the potential to emerge as the best force across the world when it is free of political meddling,” said IGP Khanal.

The IGP vowed his entire organisation would do anything for the security of the nation and its people. He also directed his subordinates to ensure fast service delivery to service seeker. He reminded them to make sure that no guilty person was freed and no innocent person was penalised. “All the people have great expectations and trust in the personnel of Nepal Police. Hence, we should be conscious about maintaining the dignity of the organisation,” directed IGP Khanal.

However, he was of the view that efforts of Nepal Police alone would not suffice to maintain law and order, peace and harmony by curbing all kinds of criminal acts in society. He underscored the importance of cooperation of commoners to maintain law and order. “All civilians are plainclothes personnel of Nepal Police. Hence, their support and participation in the campaign is a must.”
