Poll ticket divides Saptari leaders
Rajbiraj, November 1
As leaders vie for election tickets, the same has sowed bitterness among aspiring candidates in Saptari of late.
The alliance of Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal and Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal has decided to field FSF-N Chair Upendra Yadav as its parliamentary election candidate in Constituency No 2 of the district. With Yadav’s candidacy, Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal Deputy General Secretary Jaya Prakash Thakur quit the party and declared he would contest the election as an independent candidate from the same constituency.
Thakur, who is said to be a confidant to RJP-N presidium Coordinator Mahantha Thakur, contested the second CA elections from then Tarai Madhes Democratic Party and stood third in the race. Disgruntled, Thakur said that his party had picked a new face ignoring the sacrifices and contributions made during the Madhes Movement. He was against it and had decided to contest the election as an independent candidate. Yadav had contested the past two CA elections from Morang and Sunsari.
Similarly, another RJP-N leader Laxman Yadav also quit the party and declared he would contest the polls as an independent candidate. Yadav was said to be a strong probable mayoral candidate at Rajbiraj Municipality in the local level elections.
