Polls must to consolidate achievements, says Nembang
Sindhupalchowk, Feb 20:
Speaker Subas Nembang today said it was essential to hold the election to constituent assembly to consolidate the achievements of Jana Andolan II.
Drafting a constitution by people’s representatives elected to the CA can only guarantee such consolidation, he said while inaugurating a building of the Sindhupalchowk district chapter of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists in Chautara.
Interim parliament cannot carry on indefinitely and the CA election is necessary, he said.
Nembang said the government should form a high-level commission to advise the Madhesi groups in the Tarai on what kind of federal structure would be the most feasible. “Such a commission can draw up a blueprint for a federal structure after getting detailed feedback from the Madhesi groups. This blueprint can then be handed over to the constituent assembly for adopting the most appropriate structure,” he said.
Nembang said that all vestiges of monarchy had been wiped out from the country. “Past events in the country are reminders that the only alternative for the people and the political parties is to unite and work together to overcome hurdles in moving towards a democratic republic,” he said.
He added that the government is trying its best to evolve consensus among the political parties and prevent the country from splitting.
