KATHMANDU, APRIL 23
A porter has gone missing on Mt Dhaulagiri after a heavy snowfall triggered an avalanche near the base camp, expedition organiser said.
Amrit Rai from Solududhkunda of Solukhumbu went missing near a Japanese camp when he along with two friends were returning from the base camp, according to Thaneswar Guragai, General Manager at Seven Summit Treks.
An avalanche followed by a heavy snowfall hit them on Friday evening. "Rai's two friends - Arjun Rai and Dhiraj Rai -were rescued safely on Saturday but Rai's status is still unknown," said Guragai.
The incident occurred after they returned from the base camp depositing expedition logistics. Search for the missing porter is underway, according to Guragai. At least 30 foreign climbers from two teams obtained the climbing permit for Dhaulagiri this season.
