Post-mortem report discounts Sapana was raped

Dharan, April 28:

The post-mortem report of Sapana Gurung of Belbari-3 made public today showed no evidence of forced sexual intercourse was found on her body.

The post-mortem was conducted at the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences here. Prof Dr BN Yadav of the BPKHIS forensic medicine department said there was no sign of sexual intercourse on Sapana’s body. “We conducted the post-mortem according to the resources and equipment available to us but we didn’t find signs of rape,” Dr Yadav told this daily.

Dr Yadav added there was no evidence of her resistance or any bruise on her body that is found normally in rape cases. Saying that samples of Sapana’s hair, nails, clothes and vaginal discharge have been given to the police to forward these for further testing, Dr Yadav said those tests would complete the inquest. “The additional tests might throw up something different,” he said.

Meanwhile, the army committee probing Wednesday’s killings interrogated all the army personnel who were in the base camp at the time of the incident.

According to a member of the committee, it also spoke to the injured persons who are undergoing treatment at Dharan’s BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences.

The committee also met local political activists, civil society members, intellectuals and eyewitnesses yesterday.
