Poudel blames Maoists for moulding public opinion

Banke, March 4:

Senior vice-president of the NC Ram Chandra Poudel today accused the Maoist CA members of imposing their views on the people during the collection of public opinion on new constitution.

Saying that the Maoist members in the opinion collection teams were trying to manoeuvre the constitution making process, Poudel said, “The Maoists have been collecting the opinion in their own favour, not in the favour of Nepali people.” He was speaking at a press conference organised in Nepalgunj by Nepal Press Union.

“The Maoist CA members deputed for opinion collection are involved in delivering speeches in the public rather than collecting the opinion fairly,” he said. “The Maoists have posed a serious question over the constitution making process by attempting to impose their own views on the masses,” he added. Poudel also said that the Maoists were trying to impose autocracy and dictatorship in one or the other way. “They used unfair means to win the CA election and they are doing the same while collecting opinion on the new constitution. Do not the people have the right to give their views in free and fair manner?” he asked.

He said only a fair collection of opinion would help make a constitution that would reflect the aspirations of the people. Accusing the Maoists of trying to incite a civil war by beginning recruitment in People’s Liberation Army, he asked, “The Nepal Army is required for national security. But for what reason the PLA is needed?”
