PPR kills over 3,000 sheep and goats in Jajarkot

JAJARKOT: More than 3,000 sheep and goats died after the outbreak of the deadly peste des petits ruminants (PPR) disease in Jajarkot.

The disease is spreading in the district uncontrollably for last one month.

Local people claim that due to the lack of attentions from the concerned stakeholders, the disease has not been controlled yet in the district.

Earlier, a team led by veterinary physician Narayna Prasad Neupane from the Regional Animal Disease Investigation Laboratory of Surkhet had declared the outbreak of PPR after the observation.

However, the office has not paid any attention for its solution, claim locals.

Meanwhile, Ratna Bahadur Dangi, Dispensary Branch Head of Jajarkot District Livestock Service Office, informed that 15,000 vaccines against the PPR have already arrived in the district and they have already distributed 5,000 vaccines to different places, which demanded the vaccines.

Dangi further said the epidemic existed because most of the farmers had taken away their cattle to different destinations without administering the PPR vaccines.
