Prachanda talks 8-pt pact with Left leaders

Kathmandu, July 4:

Maoist supremo Prachanda today held separate talks with Janamorcha Nepal leaders and the

general secretary of the CPN-UML Madhav Kumar Nepal.

In his meeting with the Janamorcha leaders, the Maoist chief expressed resentment at the ‘half-hearted’ efforts being made in the implementation of the 8-point understanding.

Two other Maoist leaders, Dr Baburam Bhattarai and Comrade Ananta, were also present in the meeting between the Maoist chief and Amik Sherchan, Chitra Bahadur Ale, Ghanshyam Sharma Paudel, Himlal Pur and Kamal Chaudhari, among others.

A statement issued after the meeting lamented the lack of efforts in the implementation of the understanding. The Maoists also expressed concern over the criticism drawn by the issue.

In the meeting, the rebel leaders agreed to issue fresh orders to the rank and file to abide by diktats issued by the rebels’ central leadership.

They have also agreed to keep on holding similar meetings. During his meeting with Nepal, Prachanda reinforced the need on the part of the Nepali Congress (NC), the CPN-UML and the Maoists to work together to fight elements that are out to hamper the peace process.

The importance of the meeting at the UML chief’s house lies in the fact that it comes close on the heels of the rebel leader issuing orders to dissolve the so-called “People’s Courts” in cities.
