Prachanda to train combatants

KATHMANDU: Chairman of the Unified CPN-Maoist Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' along with other office bearers of the party will train Maoist commanders on the premises of the PLA's third division in Chitwan on March 1.

The training, earlier scheduled for today, had to be postponed due to the ongoing central committee meeting of the party. This is the first training of its kind after the release of the disqualified combatants from the camps. All the commanders and joint commanders from all the seven divisions of the PLA would converge at the third division for the training. Around 600 participants would be attending the training in total.

According to PLA spokesperson and deputy commander Chandra Prasad Khanal 'Baldev', the training will focus on the release of disqualified combatants, their perks, integration and also security sensitivity in the country. It may be recalled that a video-tape of the Maoist chairman's training at Shaktikhor had earlier created a controversy on the real strength of the Maoist combatants and also the party's ultimate goal.

Though the PLA is now under the Special Committee for Supervision, Integration and Rehabilitation of Maoist combatants, the party has decided to train them as they didn't attend the national training held at Kharipati in Bhaktapur through February 17 and 18. Party's state committee members and above in portfolio had participated in the Kharipati training.
