Prakash calls HLPM ineffective
KATHMANDU: Vice-chairman of the Unified CPN-Maoist Narayan Kaji Shrestha 'Prakash' today said the High Level Political Mechanism was ineffective as it was not serious about resolving the protracted political deadlock.
"The HLPM has not been serious over the issues plaguing the country for long, so we will hold a serious discussion with its convener," said Shrestha while addressing an interaction here.
He said all the Maoist combatants should be integrated into the Nepali Army except those willing to be rehabilitated in the society. Prakash said the HLPM should call its meetings more frequently and take a decision to relieve the country from the protracted political impasse and to sort out contentious issues in the news constitution.
He, however, claimed that the new constitution would not be readied until a Maoist-led national joint government was formed.
Meanwhile, one of the three members of the HLPM, Jhalanath Khanal, who is also the chairman of the CPN-UML, said the parties had failed to forge consensus to end the political impasse.
Addressing a press meet organised by the UML-affiliated Press Chautari Nepal here today, Khanal said the mechanism had failed to forge consensus and iron out differences among the parties. "All the parties should be held accountable for fulfiling the responsibility of drafting the constitution," he said.
Commenting on UML senior leader KP Oli's accusation, Khanal clarified that he had become a member of the mechanism as per the party decision. He said it was Oli's personal comment and not of the party.
