Preparations for local polls at high gear, claims Yadav
MORANG: Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhi Prasad Yadav today informed that preparations for the May 14 local level elections were in full swing.
Speaking at a press meet in Biratnagar organised by the Election Commission, Yadav said that the elections would be held on the scheduled date.
Yadav further called for the political parties to cooperate for the poll success.
Referring to the constitutional provision that two seats at every ward are reserved for women, one of which is a must for a Dalit woman, Yadav requested the media to educate the public about the provision.
Meanwhile, responding to a question of a journalist, Yadav said sections about Hindu state and monarchy in the Rastryia Prajantra Party charter were at odds with the constitutional provision of the federal secular democratic republic.
He further went on to say that the sections were obliterated following a consultation with legal experts.
In another context, Yadav said that provincial and federal elections could not be held together due to time constraints.
The Election Commission is committed to enforcing election codes and conducts, said Yadav, adding, the reports with evidence of the violation received at the Commission would be dealt with.
