Vice-president Nanda Bahadur Pun has spoken of the need to explore and preserve near-extinction cultures.
At an event jointly organised by the Nepal Academy and Lokbarta Parishad here today, VP Pun called for conducting research and studies on indigenous cultures. Stating that there were diverse indigenous ethnic groups, languages and cultures in the country, Pun said that we should unravel the diversity in the country.
Unveiling a book titled 'Lokbarta Bimarsha', the vice-president asserted that by preserving our culture and languages, we can preserve our country. Lauding the publication of the book related to cultures, Pun said book publishing should be given continuity.
According to him, it was the government's responsibility to support the Council.
Chancellor of Nepal Academy Ganga Prasad Uprety shared that the various departments of the Academy had been working for indigenous groups, languages and cultures of people of various faiths.
Bom Kumari Buda, who was feted in the event, said that Rolpa was a rich store for Magar civilization and traditions.
There should be research and study on Magar civilization and their cultures, traditions and customs.
On the occasion, six books on folk culture were launched. Rajya Shree Shrestha was also feted in the programme along with Buda.
