Urges collective effort to uphold constitutional freedoms

KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 10

President Ramchandra Paudel has stressed that cooperation from all sides is essential to ensure the March 5 election is conducted in a manner that upholds human rights and strengthens Nepal's democratic system.

In his message on the 77th Human Rights Day, President Paudel said the political changes following the Gen Z movement are being closely watched at home and abroad, calling for constructive roles from the government, political parties, civil society, youth groups and citizens.

He noted that Nepal must remain active in implementing the fundamental rights guaranteed by the constitution, which aligns with the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. As a signatory to several human rights conventions, Nepal has shown its commitment to protecting and promoting human rights, he added.

President Paudel also expressed confidence that all levels of government, human rights institutions, media and civil society will contribute to safeguarding freedoms, justice and equality, which he said form the foundation of a strong democratic system.
