President Ramchandra Paudel has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic Air India plane crash that occurred in Ahmedabad, India earlier today, claiming multiple lives.
Posting on social media platform X, the President extended condolences to the victims and their families, expressing grief over the human loss in the devastating incident.
Air India flight AI 171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner bound for the United Kingdom, crashed into a densely populated residential area-Meghani Nagar-just five minutes after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 1:38 p.m. local time.
The widebody, twin-engine aircraft was carrying more than 240 people on board. According to Air India, the passengers included 169 Indian nationals, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian.
The crash site lies near the airport in Ahmedabad, a city of over five million people and the capital of the Indian state of Gujarat. Emergency response teams are currently engaged in rescue and recovery operations.
