Prez infallible, says UML chair

KAVRE: CPN-UML chairman Jhalanath Khanal said President Dr Ram Baran Yadav had not made any mistake and would not make one in the future.

Speaking at a press meet organised by the Kavre chapter of Press Chautari in Dhulikhel today, Khanal claimed the President was ceremonial and could not make a mistake. "This is why there should not be any question of action against him," he added. Referring to the protest of main opposition Unified CPN-Maoist, he said that their agitation would be counterproductive to the nation and themselves.

Claiming that the constitution drafting process would be complete within the next ten months, Khanal said, "Those who interfere in the process will perish after the statute promulgation." He said the present political deadlock would be solved if the biggest three parties sorted out matters through a dialogue.

Reiterating the need for a national consensus government, the UML chief said, "We're trying to forge consensus with the UCPN-M." He expressed hope that the former rebels would come to terms of agreement.

Stating that they had started restructuring the party's local units, Khanal said the process would be complete within six months.
