Prez urges govt to save quake-hit folks from monsoon woes

RAMECHHAP: President Ram Baran Yadav directed the concerned government authorities to save citizens, especially dwellers of regions affected from April 25 earthquake and its aftershocks, from landslides and floods during the monsoon.

Visiting quake-affected villages of Ramechhap district on Saturday, the President asked one and all to stay alert against floods and landslides as they are likely to cause more damages this year due to the earthquakes.

Snows on mountains, forests in the Tarai and soils in hills should be conserved well.

Meanwhile, the Head of the State pointed out that farmers of the tremor-hit regions should be provided with seeds and fertilisers at the earliest to resume agricultural activities.

Commenting that district-level political leaders have failed to pay attention to farmers' woes, he said snows on mountains, forests in the Tarai and soils in hills should be conserved well.

President Yadav took stock of losses caused by the earthquake and relief and reconstruction works following the tremor, at a function organised in the district headquarters Manthali.

Political leaders and top government officials of the district had apprised the President of post-quake situation in the district.

Nepali Congress Vice-President Ram Chandra Paudel, CPN-UML Vice-Chairperson Bidya Devi Bhandari, Minister for Forest and Soil Conservation Mahesh Achrya and Madhesi leader Sharad Singh Bhandari had accompanied the President during the meeting.
