PM lauds Jhapa revolt of 46 years ago

Jhapa, March 5

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has described party unification as a ‘historic phenomenon’.

Speaking at a programme held to commemorate the day when five revolutionaries were murdered by the then regime in the Sukhani forest on the border of Jhapa and Ilam districts  46 years ago today, the PM called it quite an achievement to bring the party of former revolutionaries around for party unification.

Oli also acknowledged the sacrifice made by the party Co-chair Puspa Kamal Dahal for unification. “The sacrifice he made for party unification is unprecedented,” he said.

“In this short span of one year, we’ve done one-and-a-half times more than what would be done in a year otherwise,” said Oli, reiterating his vow to move ahead by focusing on development and prosperity.

Further, he justified the Jhapa revolt in the backdrop of the revolution of 1990s which for him was an incomplete revolution.

“The martyrs of Sukhani have a special place in Nepal’s history. As the revolutions earlier hadn’t completed full course, the Jhapa revolt happened,” said Oli, adding the country no longer needed any revolt.

“They might have taken to explosions to carry out theft or robbery. That’s not politics. If they are really for politics, we’re ready to welcome and give them suitable responsibility, said PM Oli.
