‘PM Oli trying to become Hitler’
Pokhara, August 6
Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba today accused Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli of trying to seize state institutions in Adolf Hitler’s style.
Speaking at a programme organised to distribute Dayasankar Palikhe Memorial Journalism Award-2019 in Pokhara, Deuba alleged that Oli was trying to become a tyrant by seizing the Parliament just as Hitler had seized Parliament after being elected democratically.
Deuba warned of an agitation from both the street and Parliament against Oli’s authoritarianism. “NC will wage peaceful stir against the government’s authoritarian style of governance,” Deuba stated.
He urged all and sundry to fight against the government’s anti-democratic moves. “We watched for one-and-a-half years. But, we will not stay silent any more. Oli is trying to end democracy by bringing the Press Council Bill and limiting the prerogative of National Human Rights Commission,” he added.
NC President Deuba said press freedom was indispensable for democracy. He warned that lack of press freedom would put democracy in jeopardy.
