PM discusses potential legal challenges to govt with lawyers

Kathmandu, October 4

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba today consulted almost a dozen lawyers including the officers of Nepal Bar Association over the legal challenges that the opposition parties could pose to the current government.

General Secretary of NBA Khamma Bahadur Khati said almost all the participating lawyers told the PM that there was no possibility of change of guard as the term of the current Parliament will end on October 21 and the election code of conduct prohibited formation of a new government. “Even if the opposition parties try to bring a no-confidence motion, it will take almost a month for the motion to mature,” Khati said and added that there was no time for the Parliament to elect a new prime minister even if the parliamentary rules were suspended to fast-track the process.

Among the lawyers who offered advice to the PM were senior advocates Radhe Shyam Adhikari, Mahadev Yadav, Badri Bahadur Karki, Prem Bahadur Khadka, Purna Man Shakya, Yadunath Khanal,  NBA President Sher Bahadur KC and NBA General Secretary Khamma Bahadur Khati.
