RAUTAHAT, NOVEMBER 18

Kin of Ladai Sah, who allegedly hanged himself in a toilet of Gaur prison, demonstrated at the prison and Rautahat District Police Office accusing the prison administration of murdering him and hanging his body to give the impression of a suicide.

Sah, aged 24, who was serving time in Gaur prison for abduction, hostage-taking and rape, was found hanging in the toilet of the prison yesterday afternoon, according to Gaur prison.

Today, the kin of the youth and locals held demonstration at the district police office and Gaur prison, claiming Sah was beaten black and blue, strangled and his body was hanged.

Sah, a resident of Dewahi Gonahi Municipality, had been in remand in Gaur prison over charges levelled against him for the past two years.

"My husband was framed in trumped up charges. He was to be produced at Birgunj High Court on Wednesday, so there was no reason that he would commit suicide," said Sima Devi Sah, the deceased's wife.

The mayor and deputy mayor of Dewahi Gonahi Municipality have asked police to investigate the doubtful death.

According to Rautahat police spokesperson DSP Narayan Prasad Chimoriya, Sah was found in an unconscious state and was rushed to Gaur Hospital, only to be announced dead.
