SARLAHI, NOVEMBER 18
At least six people, including a minister, were injured in a scuffle between two factions of the Nepali Congress in Malangawa, Sarlahi, Thursday afternoon.
Minister of Women, Children, Youth, and Sports Birendra Singh was among the injured.
On Saturday, the election officer had resigned owing to internal dispute in the party.
Following the incident, its ward convention was halted. The convention was then fixed for today, following an agreement between the establishment and rival factions.
However, a dispute arose again today, this time too, over election officer.
The dispute between the two factions worsened after election officer Diwakar Pande published the name list unilaterally.
The anti-establishment faction had taken exception to the establishment of election office at a hotel owned by the party president's supporter rather than in the party office.
According to former NC district president Laxman Raya, the dispute turned into a clash after Minister Singh's bodyguard trained a pistol at anti-establishment faction leaders Binod Khanal and Baliram Jha.
Laxman Raya is considered a supporter of senior NC leader Ramchandra Paudel.
NC district president Nagendra Kumar Raya, who is close to party president Sher Bahadur Deuba, accused the rival faction of manhandling the election officer in the course of a discussion regarding the deployment of voting officers.
