Probe committee sought

Khotang, April 14

Various organisations including Khotang Chambers of Commerce and Industries demanded a probe committee to investigate the bus accident that claimed as many as 24 lives at Barkhetar of the district, yesterday.

Representatives of the organisations today demanded that a probe panel be formed to unveil the cause of the accident that occurred three days ago in the district.

They also demanded action against the guilty, proper compensation to the families of victims and free treatment of the injured.

Khotang Chambers of Commerce and Industries Chairperson Rajendra Layalu said that the bus lost control while trying to evade a pile of boulders at the edge of the road.

“The accident occurred due to the cramped road, vulnerable wall and randomly kept construction materials,” said Chairperson Layalu.

No clue of the driver’s fault has so far been seen. The contractor’s company must be responsible for the accident as the pile of the boulders is the main cause of the accident,” claimed Layalu.

However, transport entrepreneurs have claimed that the bus met with the accident while carrying more passengers than its total capacity. “The bus was also not in proper condition as it had not been servicing properly.

They have also drawn the attention of different parties, transport entrepreneurs association, administration, security personnel and traffic police to the need to minimise such kinds of fatal accidents.
