KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 8
A problem with the runway lights at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu has disrupted flights and landings.
There was a problem with the runway's electrical circuit from around 4 pm on Saturday. All domestic and international flights from Kathmandu were suspended after the runway became dark.
According to TIA spokesperson Rinji Sherpa, a technical team is currently working on the field. He also stated that the problem has been partially resolved.
However, it will take time for flights/landings to resume. The Korean Air flight has now been diverted to Delhi. As per reports, the flights would be resumed after 10 o'clock tonight.
SpiceJet has canceled today's flight. The plane was on its way to Kathmandu from Delhi.
The Buddha Air plane that arrived from Janakpur has been sent there. The Buddha plane that arrived from Surkhet has been diverted to Pokhara.
Other planes are on hold.The airport has stated that repairs to the damaged lighting system are underway and that flights and landings will not be possible until this is done.
