Property damage 30b in Gorkha

DAMAULI: Physical infrastructure worth more than Rs 30 billion was damaged by the deadly earthquake of April 25 last year in Gorkha alone.

According to Urban Development and Building Construction Division Office Gorkha, private residences worth Rs 13 billion and government structures worth Rs 17 billion suffered damage in the tremor.

Division office Chief Shyam Kishor Singh said houses and private school buildings worth Rs 13 billion and government schools, hydro power, and government offices including agriculture, worth Rs 17 billion was destroyed in the natural calamity.

As many as 450 persons were killed in the quake and more than 66,000 houses were completely damaged in Gorkha.

Eighty per cent houses were destroyed in the quake in the district.
