Property worth millions was destroyed after a fire broke out due to electric short circuit in Damauli Bazaar of Byas Municipality, Tanahun, this morning.

Police said the fire had spread from a hardware shop belonging to Bhupal Aale. The fire also destroyed a house belonging to Aale's neighbour Jyoti Kumar Shrestha. Tarpin oil, plywood and pipes, among other materials, worth millions were reduced to ashes in the blaze. The hardware shops operated by Shrestha and Aale were destroyed completely, said police.

The fire also destroyed more than one-and-half-dozen houses in the surroundings, said police.

Police said that fire engines from Gorkha and Pokhara were called after the fire engine belonging to Byas Municipality could not bring the fire under control.

Nepali Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Traffic Police and locals worked to bring the fire under control.

The security teams, along with locals, brought the fire under control at 2:00pm after almost four hours.

Meanwhile, Labour Employment and Social Security Minister Krishna Kumar Shrestha reached the site in a helicopter. The helicopter was used to bring water from Madi River to douse the fire.

Shrestha said that he had used the helicopter belonging to Simrik Airlines in coordination with Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand.

Exact details of the loss have not be collected. No human casualty was reported, said police. Following the fire incident, the locals in Damauli Bazaar are in fear.
