KATHMANDU, JANUARY 13
Amid uproars from opposition parties regarding the winter session, President Ramchandra Paudel has authenticated four ordinances on the Cabinet's recommendation today.
President Paudel issued an Ordinance to Amend Some Nepal in accordance with Article 114 (1) of the Constitution.
Issuing a press statement today, the President's Office said that Acts Related to Promoting Good Governance and Public Service Delivery, 2025, the Economic Procedure and Financial Accountability (First Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, the Privatisation (First Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, and the Ordinance to Amend Some Nepal Acts Related to Improving Economic and Business Environment and Enhancing Investments, 2025 were issued.
However, the Land Ordinance was not issued today as it is still under scrutiny, according to reports.
The cabinet meeting on Friday recommended five ordinances to the president, following the decision made by the cabinet meeting on January 10 to do so.
The CPN-MC, the chief opposition party, has been expressing dissatisfaction over the government's inordinate delay in beginning the winter session of Parliament. Moreover, the delay in holding the winter session combined with the issuance of an ordinance has sparked widespread criticism. President Paudel on December 29 authenticated a cooperative-related ordinance.
Earlier, Spokesperson of CPN-MC Agni Prasad Sapkota had said, "The government's intention does not seem right. It is moving forward by bypassing the Parliament and bringing ordinances. These ordinances are also aimed at splitting the parties. The government's actions are posing a serious threat to democracy."
However, today Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli expressed his concern over the spread of rumours and negativity that an ordinance on party division has been forwarded.
"He has no intention of splitting the parties. Instead, keeping in mind the development of the country and the service of the people, the government has recommended various ordinances to the President," PM Oli said.
