Protesters disrupt traffic along East-West Highway
MAHOTTARI: The locals of Gauridanda and Ramgopalpur on Monday disrupted vehicular movement along the East West Highway.
The locals resorted to chakkajam, demanding that an electricity transformer be installed in their village. While, residents in Ramgopalpur demanded that a damaged road in their area be repaired. The locals had blocked the roads since Thursday.
Consequently, hundreds of passengers have been stranded in Mahottari.
Gyanendra Thakur, who was heading to Kathmandu from Mahottari, walked for three hours to reach Lalbandhi due to the chakkajam today. Similarly, Sulakshyana Shah of Saptari has been stranded in Bardibas. “I’m not sure whether I should head toward Kathmandu or return home.
Another stranded passenger, Sita Karki, said, “I wonder if there will ever be a day when we will be able to move along the highway without facing trouble.”
According to Sher Bahadur Khadka of Area Police Office Ramgopalpur, attempts to resume the traffic along the highway had been fruitless.
Meanwhile, life in mid-Mahottari has been hit hard as traffic along the Bardibas-Jaleshwor section of the highway has not yet resumed due to the bandh called by locals of Aurahi.
