Pun takes oath of office in the name of martyrs
KATHMANDU: Newly elected Vice-president Nanda Bahadur Pun on Sunday took oath of office and secrecy in the name of martyrs, nation and the people. President Bidhya Devi Bhandari administered the oath of office and secrecy to Pun amid a function at Shital Niwas in the presence of a large number of dignitaries and envoys. A former commander of People’s Liberation Army, Pun was elected the second Vice-president of Federal Democratic Republic Nepal on Saturday. He had defeated Nepali Congress leader Amiya Kumar Yadav. As soon as Pun took oath of office and secrecy, outgoing vice-president Paramananda Jha congratulated and handed over his seat to Pun and left the stage. On Sunday itself, Pun resigned from all the responsibilities of his party Unified CPN-Maoist in order to ensure neutrality in his responsibilities as vice-president. Issuing a press statement, Pun, who was standing committee member of UCPN-M, said he had resigned from all his responsibilities of the party after being elected vice-president.
