Punish stir suppressors: Ministers
Kathmandu, November 21:
Two ministers today said that the government will implement the report of the High-Level Investigation Commission. The commission, headed by former Supreme Court Justice Krishna Jung Rayamajhi, yesterday submitted its findings on the suppression of the Jana Andolan II to PM Girija Prasad Koirala.
“The government will take action against the king as he has been listed as the one who was primarily responsible for the killing and the suppression during the mass movement,” Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Narendra Bikram Nembang, said at the Reporters Club Nepal. The government would either promulgate a new law or act according to a political decision to punish them. “I can say that the recommendations will be implemented to respect people’s aspirations” he said.
Minister of State for General Administration, Dharmanath Prasad Shah, also said the government will see to it that the Rayamajhi report would not meet the same fate as that of the Mallik Commission report. Shah said that unless the recommendations are implemented, the government cannot claim that it respects the aspirations of the people. Human rights activist Krishna Pahadi accused the Rayamajhi Commission and the government of trying to give impunity to those responsible by recommending enactment of a new law.
