Pvt schools get fresh ultimatum from student unions

KATHMANDU: Student unions aligned to various political parties on Monday issued an ultimatum of a week to private schools, urging them to fully comply with their pledge to waive 50 per cent of the fee of a month as the schools remained shut for more than a month.

A joint meeting of the 13 student unions held in the Capital warned of reigniting their agitation programmes if the private schools do not abide by the pledge to implement the decision to waive the fee.

The student unions have also appealed to the guardians to only pay half the fee for the Nepali month of Baisakh to the schools.

In the meeting, student leaders also urged the parents to submit evidences if any school was found to be charging full fees of the said month, said Nepal Student Union Spokesperson UP Lamichane.

Lamichane said the unions will take action against any schools found to be violating the commitment.

The student unions also thanked the private schools for agreeing to waive half the amount of fees, although they had previously demanded waiving total fee of the month.
