Radio magazine’s work lauded

The Katwal Radio Magazine has been an effective tool in creating awareness among people against social discrimination. Participants at the interaction titled ‘Shortcomings and future plans of the Radio Magazine’ said the magazine has played a crucial role to change the age-old attitude of the society. They suggested broadcasters to raise issues of social change strongly. Addressing the function organised recently, litterateur Dahal Yagyanidhi lauded the contribution of Dalit communities to social development.

President of the Community Radio Support Centre, Raghu Mainali, suggested broadcasters to be cautious on selection of contents. President of the Mahadevsthan Katuwal Radio Listeners’ Club, Ram Kumar Tolal, stressed on the need to broadcast radio plays based on the lives of people in remote villages. The programme is being aired via some 12 FM stations throughout the nation. The magazine has been broadcasting various issues on Dalits and other social ills.

Though the Constitution of the Kingdom of Nepal 1990 has stated that caste-based discrimination is punishable, segregation is rampant in rural areas.
