Rain hits food supply in west
Nepalgunj, September 26:
Heavy rainfall since Saturday has halted food supply in many hilly districts in the mid- and far-western regions. Heavy rains have stopped the supply of food materials from Nepalgunj to Surkhet, which has hindered the supplies to other hilly districts, Dipak Kumar Lamshal, chief of the zonal office of Nepal Food Corporation (NFC), Bheri, said. The food materials to 12 hilly districts in the mid- and far-west regions are delivered via Nepalgunj. These districts are Mugu, Humla, Jumla, Dolpa, Kalikot, Bajura, Bajhang, Dailekh, Rolpa, Rukum, Jajarkot and Surkhet, Lamshal said. “Humla has run out of food in the last few days,” said Lamshal. Lamshal said he had not been able to contact Humla by phone.
As of August 24, 150 quintals of rice was available in Humla, 836 quintals in Dolpa, 530 quintals in Mugu, 347 in Kalikot, 352 in Jumla, 220 in Jajarkot, 300 in Dailekh, 200 in Bajura, while 13000 quintals of rice was in stock. Out of the targeted 9,850 quintals of rice to be sent to Jumla, only 1,539 quintals have been supplied. Likewise, of 5,500 quintals to be sent to Kalikot, 1,626 quintals have been supplied; and only 1,653 of 7,300 quintals has been sent to Dolpa.
