Rain, storm add to Kyami fire victims’ woes

Strong winds and rain have added to the woes of the fire victims in Tanahun’s Kyami village.

A fire in Dharampani village of Kyami VDC had reduced the houses of Dhana Bahadur Dura, Sher Bahadur Dura, Budha Bahadur Dura and Santa Bahadur Dura to ashes on March 18.

The fire had started from Dhan Bahadur’s house when kids were trying to light a match to cook snacks. Authorities said properties worth Rs 3.8 million was reduced to ashes in the incident. According to Binod Gosheli, a neighbour, the victim families are currently living in makeshift tents. “Their living condition is so pathetic that even a gust of wind could blow their tents,” he said. Meanwhile, Red Cross Tanahun has provided the victim families with tarpaulin, utensils and clothes. The families have asked for more relief from the government.
