Rajbiraj Municipality staffers on war path over irregularities
Rajbiraj, May 4
The longstanding dispute between the office chief and staffers has brought important works to a standstill at Rajbiraj Municipality.
It has been three months that employees have hit the street accusing Executive Officer Bishnu Prasad Gurung of financial anomalies, but the apathy to finding a solution is making the situation miserable by the day.
The agitation has adversely affected most development works at the municipality. The municipality’s policy and programme could not be passed after employees refused to participate in the programme organised to make public the policy and programme saying that the executive officer had kept them in the dark about the municipal council meeting.
After employees launched the stir against him, EO Gurung has halted the salary of staffers. Umesh Prasad Yadav, Nepal Municipality Employees’ Association Unit Committee Rajbiraj Chairman, said that salary had been halted for the past three months.
Meanwhile, Nepal Municipality Employees Association Unit Committee Rajbiraj today staged a sit-in at the municipality office.
Chairman Dahal said that the sit-in lasted till 1:00pm today. Yadav warned that all the activities would be halted if their demand was not met within five days.
Executive Officer Gurung said the problem would be solved through dialogue. He asked the agitating staffers to be responsible and come to the table for dialogue to find a solution.
