Ranibari murder suspect held after 10 years

KATHMANDU: Police on Monday said they arrested a man involved in a murder case in Kathmandu, around 10 years ago, from Prithvi Chok of Pokhara in Kaski.

The arrestee has been identified as Milan Shrestha aka Prakash (30) of Dolakha.

Shrestha was allegedly involved in the murder of Baikuntha Pun (18 at the time of murder) of Dhuwakot, Gulmi. Pun was temporarily residing in Samakhushi when the incident occurred, police added.

Pun had a fight with Ram Kumar Thami on July 16, 2006. On the same day, a gang of six to seven people attacked Pun with a rod in Ranibari of Samakhusi; critically injuring him. He had breathed his last a day later.

Shrestha was arrested by a special team from the Metropolitan Crime Division in cooperation of Kaski district Police, on Friday.

According to police, the arrestee was working as a junior officer at the Salt Trading Corporation's Zonal Office from the year 2010 and was posted at its Kaski-based office during the arrest.

Police are searching for the remaining suspects in the case.
