Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal presidium member Rajendra Mahato today warned that his party would launch agitation from both the Parliament and the street after the festive season if their demands were not addressed by the government.

Speaking at a press meet organised by his party in Rajbiraj, Mahato vented ire on the incumbent government for doing nothing to amend the statute in the past six months.

He informed that his party was preparing to submit a memorandum to the prime minister through the District Administration Office on Monday.

The memorandum will comprise a charter of demands including statute amendment, swearing-in of Resham Chaudhary, member of the House of Representatives, etc. “If our demands are not met even after that, we will launch protest from both the Parliament and street after the festive season, Mahato warned.

Mahato clarified that once the protest began, their support to the government would be automatically withdrawn.

He also charged that police had destroyed evidences to save the guilty involved in the rape and murder of Nirmala Panta in Bhimdatta Municipality, Kanchanpur. “Saviours have become predators”, he charged.

Mahato said the government had failed on every front. Noting that Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal had given support to the government on the condition that the constitution would be amended, Mahato said it was in the hands of the leadership whether to break or keep the relations.

Reminding that six constitutions had vanished in the past, Mahato warned that the seventh constitution might face the same fate. He informed that the National Convention of his party would be held in seven months.

When asked about the continuity of the RJPN- Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal’s coalition government in Province 2, Mahato said that activities so far had not been satisfactory. “But, we have started working effectively as Madhesi people want this coalition to be in place.”
