Rasuwa NGOs asked to make public details of relief distribution process
RASUWA: All Non Government Organisations active in Rasuwa district have been asked to make public details of the relief distribution process and distributed relief materials after the April 25 devastating earthquake.
The move comes at a time when rumours have surfaced that some NGOs have involved in the embezzlement of relief distribution to the quake survivors in the district.
Local Development Officer Bishnu Prasad Koirala said that the NGOs have been asked to make public details from the donor agency, received amounts and the reliefs provided to the quake victims and the process to select the organisation to provide reliefs among others.
Koirala informed about the matter at a joint meeting organised by the District Development Committee in the district on Friday.
Speaking at the meeting, Chief District Officer Shiva Ram Gelal said that complaints of the act of luring particular people with money to change their religion, taking advantage of the quake has surfaced and that any organisation found to be involved in such illegal activities would be booked.
He also urged concerned NGOs to involve in the reconstruction and relief distribution.
Madhav Prasad Lamichhane of the UCPN-Maoist said that evidence could be furnished to claim that some NGOs are involved in changing religion of the people while distributing relief materials. Likewise, leaders of the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML have suggested NGOs to work with the reconstruction and relief distribution in coordination with local government bodies and political parties.
