KATHMANDU, JULY 8
A massive flood struck Rasuwagadhi, Gosaikunda Rural Municipality-1, early Tuesday morning, causing extensive damage to infrastructure and leaving at least 18 people missing.
According to the Rasuwa District Police Office, the floodwaters reached Rasuwagadhi around 3:00 AM. By 4:00 AM, the Miteri Bridge connecting Nepal and China had been completely destroyed, halting the movement of people and vehicles across the border.
At approximately 4:40 AM, floodwaters damaged an EV charging station in Ward No. 1, sweeping away around 70–75 electric vehicles. The customs yard and Rasuwagadhi Hydropower dam also sustained significant damage.
Three police personnel deployed for rescue operations-Police Sub-Inspector Lal Bahadur Shrestha, Police Constable Muna Thakur, and Police Constable Lokendra Bohora-have gone out of contact.
In total, 94 security personnel from various units, including Nepal Police and Armed Police Force, have been mobilized for search and rescue.
So far, nine people have been rescued: one from Nepal Police, one from the Armed Police Force, and seven local residents.
Those currently missing include three police personnel, six Nepali citizens, and three Chinese nationals.
Additionally, the flood has blocked the Pasang Lhamu Highway near Gosaikunda Rural Municipality-5, disrupting traffic between Dhunche and Timure.
Authorities are continuing rescue operations and damage assessments.
