RAUTAHAT, FEBRUARY 04
The general strike called by Dahal-Nepal faction of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) -- in protest of the recent appointment of constitutional bodies' officials -- had partial effect in Rautahat today.
According to the District Police Office (DPO), large and long haul vehicles did not operate today whereas small vehicles operated without any hassle throughout the day. The strike was not felt in the district headquarters Gaur, Garuda, among other places in the district.
Likewise, educational institutions, industrial sectors in Chandrapur of Rautahat along the East-West Highway was not affected by the general strike.
Police intervened and foiled the Dahal-Nepal faction struggle committee led-by city coordinator Bikrant Bikram Nepal's attempt to stage demonstration and burn tyres in Gaur. Likewise, leader Ram Kumar Bhattarai led a large group in Chandrapur and chanted slogans against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
Cadres affiliated to Dahal-Nepal faction including Bipin Jaiswal, Sheikh Kalimullaha, Shyam Nandan Sahani, Nanipat Sahani, Sheikh Sadam, Seikh Kausar were taken into custody at the Area Police Office, Garuda.
DPO Chief, Superintendent of Police (SP) Siddhi Bikram Shah said, the general strike had little impact in the district today. All the arrestees will be released after necessary investigation, SP Shah added.
