GAIGHAT, FEBRUARY 4

The general strike called by Dahal-Nepal faction of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has largely affected the daily life in Udayapur district.

Areas in and around the district headquarters Gaighat and other major markets have remained completely closed. The strike also caused educational institutions, transportations, and industries to largely remain shut.

Although public vehicles that ply the long and short routes from the district are not operational, some tempos and motorcycles could be seen moving in few of the markets and rural areas of the district.

No major incidents have occurred during the strike in the district, informed police.

The splinter group of the ruling party called for the strike in protest after officials of constitutional bodies were sworn in on Wednesday without parliamentary hearings.
