KATHMANDU, MARCH 20

Temperature across the country has relatively 'cooled down' with the beginning of this week, after witnessing a record temperature last week.

Among the districts, Dharan saw the highest rise in temperature with record 37.7 degree Celsius rooted on March 17 and 37.2 on March 18 - highest in the area since March 28, 2004.

The weather may cool today and tomorrow, bringing some respite, with chances of rain in parts of country.

According to a forecast issued by Meteorological Forecasting Division, weather in Province 1, Gandaki Province, Karnali Province and Sudur Pashchim Province along with the hilly regions of rest of the provinces will be partly to generally cloudy today.

Rest of the country will remain partly cloudy with chances of light rain or thunder and lightning in few places of hilly regions and chances of light snowfall in few places of high mountainous region.

Similarly, on Monday, hilly regions of the country may witness rain with weather in rest of the parts remaining generally fair. One or two places of the mountainous region may receive light rain accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning.

The aforementioned record temperature was apparently experienced due to heatwaves observed in Pakistan and northwest India. The heat is slightly dropping there as well but is expected to rise again at the end of the week.

With rise in temperature, occurrence of fire related hazard also increases. Therefore, authorities have alerted all to remain cautious of potential fire hazards including forest fire and to follow preventive measures to avoid the same.
