Red Cross to coordinate relief work

Biratnagar, September 3:

Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) is going to provide food and shelter to people displaced by the Saptakoshi flood.

With the assistance of World Food Program (WFP) and Save the Children, NRCS has taken the responsibility of providing the relief to some 30,000 displaced victims of Sunsari’s Paschim Kusaha, Haripur, Sripur and other villages.

After an agreement between the three organisations, NRCS has mobilised 80 volunteers and 20 employees to this effect.

Central vice-chairman of NRCS Hari Niraula said 27,387 displaced people of at least 4,630 families — including 2,916 Indian people — would be provided with 20 varieties of food items and utensils from tomorrow.

NRCS’s Sunsari chapter said the number of displaced may rise.

District Administration Office has started distributing cards to each household in Paschim Kusaha and Jalapapur Madarasa areas from today.

The government is preparing to put the displaced in temporary camps in Jhumka.
