Relief goods for quake victims decaying in Lamjung
LAMJUNG: Relief materials kept in the hall of District Development Committee, Lamjung have been found with moulds.
The relief materials, which should have been distributed to the earthquake victims, have been a holy grail for mice and sparrows for 32 months.
The expiry date of the wheat flour stores has already expired while fungi have been discovered in various other food items. Likewise, bitten rice, biscuits and rice are decayed.
According to Assistant Chief District Officer, Tirtha Bahadur Adhikari, distribution of relief packages in the most affected area was hindered by the unavailability of the vehicles.
Preparations are underway to destroy the decayed and expired relief materials, he added.
VDC secretaries and locals have been requested to distribute the relief materials in the quake-hit area of the district, he informed.
Currently, 197 sacks of rice, 131 sacks of wheat flour, 1,066 tents, clothes, blankets, noodles and biscuits are in the store.
